So I saw a used SVT 1999 T Red w/ 101k on it at a local dealer. Not quite a bigtime one but just a used car dealer. I looked at the car and it was good no dash warp or anything bad i could see. From the get-go the guy was a jag. The price wasnt there but he said it was. Then he told me 7400. This was overpriced to me and im pretty sure i was right.

I told my friend aloud that it was overpriced and the guy shoved me away from the car (by the way it was open thats how i got in when he wasnt there) and said fine if its too much you dont have to look at it.

Started swearing at me about that and i got PO'd. I mean im only 17 but still

That was a horrible experience and overpriced.

A couple years ago I went to a dealership that had a Duratec with a 5-speed (99 I think). I pulled up in my SVT and asked to look at it. The thing seemed mechanically sound, but the interior and exterior were beat to hell. There were horrible looking stains everywhere inside, but the kicker was the baby toys and food in the front seat, back seat, and the trunk. There were two guys trying to work me over on this thing, one playing good cop and one playing bad cop. The good cop kept telling me how fit the car was. When I mentioned the utter filth, the bad cop asked me if I expected them to have it detailed before they put it on the lot. I pointed to my SVT and said "that's what I drove here in, so basically, yes." They gave up on me at that point.

I've found that going to look at any used car in my SVT and pointing it out to the salesman at some point really takes the pressure off. They seem to realize that unless they can show me something better than what I already have they aren't going to win me over by brute force.

Which dealer?

I'm actually car shopping right now and will stay far away from there if thats the service they gave you....

Gateway Chevy - Full Of Stuff. They told me they had the truck I wanted then got me to go and didnt have it.

Sherman Dodge in Skokie - Deinately classy people. treated me with respect and spoke very down to earth with me.

Bob Watson - Didn't promise me a darn thing but talkwed me into coming down anyway. Very bad about calling people back though when asking for a certain car.

Bob Rohrman Chevy - Good so far, still got to get down there and check out thier selection.

Integrity Auto - Talked to the guy once. Told him what I was looking for. He checked, called me back and told me they didn't have it. A month later the guy called me back and told me they found the truck I was looking for. Great customer service so far just from the two telephone conversations i had with him.

Overall Sherman Dodge were the best people to deal with so far, but alas due to lack of selection, and my bad credit, I won't be purchasing from them. The sales manager used to own an SVT Contour and stuck around telling me about "The Good Ole' Days" and how much he missed that car, even after three trannies!!!

I've talked to a couple of other dealers, I'll post as soon as i get yay or nay on my personal opinion of each.

Steve

Rogers Auto Group called and gave me a spiel about 28,000 loan today. Did a Google search and it seems that everyone gets approved for the exact same amount. But I will be down there to see thier inventory this week, 'cause Carmela sounded kinda cute on the phone!!!

I do the same thing. In adition, do your research, if you know what you're talkinga bout its pety easy to turn the game around on a dealer.....here's the little story of my SVT.

Went to look at it after hearing about it entirely by chance. Went in knowing the car had a 3rd gear grind(had funds already stashed for a TH trans), 100k miles and nothing else. I drove up in my old modded SE and asked to look at the SVT(called ahead so it was ready for me) he handed me the keys and pointed me in the right direction. Imediatly uppon starting the car i tested the sunroof, gear was stripped. The body had no rust but had been keyed only days earlier when at auction . The check engine light was on but with the mileage i assumed either cats or O2's...again not a big deal since i had funds waiting for headers and MIL eliminators. Otherwise the car was spotless....bone stock with minimal underbody rust and brand new BFG's on E1's with no curbage(easy sell after upgrading).

After a short test drive i came in and handed him the keys looking a bit disapointed. He came out with me and i explained my backround with the Contour and then proceded to just rip the car apart pointing out every minor flaw, quoted from common probles from the site and making a fiew up along the way.....ended up taking it home a week later for $2200.
