And my rental car for the days was, finally, a Fusion. I keep asking for one, and I finally got one.
Overall, I like it. Performance was better than I expected. Ride is nice. Six speed auto trans helps a lot.
Don't like that there isn't any real trans control. I will need to drive more to decide if the "L" position provides enough contorl when there is a need to hold a specific gear.
The car I got had a loud rumble, like cupped tires or a bad wheel bearing. The left rear was cupped, but it didn't seen to be enough for the rumble I heard. I also don't care for the Conti CH95 tires. My experience from other cars with this tire is that they wear quick. That may have contributed to the cupping.
The Hyundai Sonata's I've driven recently have more power and have a trans that can be controlled (dual gate shifter).
In some ways I liked the Fusion better. The Hyundai cotinues to impress me though.

yeah, the only thing i dont like about the fusion is the poor rear visability out the back windshield.

Last night I rented another Hyundai Sonata. Dropped off the Fusion at one airport and got the Sonata at the next airport. It helps to have the two back to back for comparison.
The Sonata really does perform stronger. Especially with the trans in "sport" mode.
Ford needs to make the 3.5 optional in the Fusion. Maybe they are reluctant because the 3.5 is in the Lincoln MKZ (Zephyr) for 2007 and they want more seperation between the Ford and the Lincoln. By not making the 3.5 available in the Fusion, they are not competitive.
Making the car so that there is no good way to control which trans gear you would like to hold is just plain dumb. Maybe that's because there are no mountain roads in Michigan.

A friend of mine recently got a Fusion with a 5 speed manual (4 cly). Not bad...but I feel Ford still doesn't put anything inside the car to really WOW me. His seemed to have the same options as my SVT...shouldn't they work more on improving the vehicles over the years?
On the other hand, I was actually impressed by the Hyundai I rented a while back...they've come a long way. I think some other car company's should be worried about them in the very near future.

My brother (who I bought my first Contour from) bought an '06 Sonata, and he absolutely loves it. I haven't driven it but I've been a passenger and I have to say I'm very impressed. My girlfriend owns an '05 Accent, and, well, you get what you pay for

i have an '07 Sonata as a rental right now, it's absolutely fun to drive! mine also has a rattling sound from the front but it doesn't affect the driving at all. my boyfriend, on the other hand, hates it only b/c he works on chevy's for a living and hates foreign cars. acceleration is very quick and it handles well, although i wouldn't buy one. but i do agree with your statement, other car companies should be worrying in the near future!!!!

Have him look at where the parts on Chevy's comes from. Last I checked the engine in the Equinox comes from China. Needs more common sense.

If I were in the market for a class of car that Hyundai makes, they would definately be on the short list. Hard to beat a 5yr bumper to bumper warranty & 10yr powertrain. Not at all bad cars for the money.
Hyundai & Kia have come a long way & are working hard to gain market. Their cars are worth a look.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I agree, if you would have asked me a couple years ago if I would consider a Korean vehicle, I would have said never in a million years. Howwever, the all new 2007 Sante Fe is definitely on our short list for SUV's.

The new KIA Serento looks great as well. The only Ford I would buy right now is a Mustang or F-150. I noticed Ford is out with a longer warranty now too. Trying to keep up?
