Same symptoms as everyone else, anything over 80 km/h will make the tires WHIRRRR, a slight turn right makes them louder, a slight turn left makes them quiet again.

Dosent sound like an alignment problem does it?

Is it safe to drive the car on a 500 km journey? Im leaving saturday morning. Its all highway, about 120 km/h average speed.

Thanks guys.

I had a bad wheel bearing for a very very long time, it very slowly just got louder. I didn't have any problems driving on it, but I'm not sure if other people have had worse experiences.

Left side, most probably wheel bearing, do the 12 and 6 c'clock test to confirm.

Is it better or worse at 120km/hr? That will determine your chances of completing the 500 km journey.

You should be safe. Maybe it'll cut down on gas mileage But get it fixed soon.

I hate pesky problems like that. I've been putting off a bad wheel bearing and cv joint for almost a year

May sound stupid but check your lug nuts as well.

could be your outter Ti-rod, just replaced my driver side outer. Going to want to replace both control arms too soon but I don't have the time or money to invest in a job like that.

the car dosent shake or rattle or anything, its just the WHIRRING thats annoying anywhere from 80-110 km/h

When i get back i'll jack it up, take it off, and send it to Stazi

I drove my 96 Contour (w/115k miles on it) to Ft Sill, Oklahoma (nearly to Texas) with a bad wheel bearing.

I have no idea how long the bearing was bad since I bought it like that.

Never had any issues with it... well, when I was driving.

Changing them out was a MAJOR PITA! The "on the car" system left my brother with tiny fragments of the bearing in his arms!

Bench press & long sleeve shirt FTW here!

Also might wanna change out both while you're at it. The passenger side might be on it's way out also.

I read Ray's How-to and it didnt seem like it would be to difficult, probably half a days work.

Then ill wrap it up and send it to Stazi.

It would be nice to do Tom's big brake Focus Braket mod at the same time.
