if i'm looking for an 8" midbass, should i stick to the ones that have a frequency range that r low like 50-500 (just made up numbers) or will an 8" that plays up into the thousands (more of a midrange) do just as well? any other specs to look for for a midbass speaker? i think qts should be high, correct?to work in the doors. or should it be low like for small sealed boxes?assuming the door is completely sealed for the low qts.

Are you doing a two or three way system in the front?

In the door I dont think it can be 100% sealed unless you are making a new door panel. It will be more like a IB setup unless your really getting into it.

Best is to audition each, but thats not always practicle. As for response, just make sure the driver can play above its crossover range so that you can have some overlap if you need to tweak things.

I'd say from 60-250 or 300. You could go higher, but I wouldn't.....

I'd recommend using a Peerless 850519.

i get that. but when looking a mids could a mid spec'd 60-3000 work just as well as a mid spec'd 60-300? the 2nd seems to be designed specifically as a midbass. is the first one engineered in a certain way that it simply wont cut it as a midbass like the 2nd one would? is that even a fair question or more info about the 60-3000 driver is needed to answer it? these arent specific to any driver that i'm looking at now. but if u want, take the vifa pl7. they r in my doors now and go up to 4k. is there something about them that would prevent them from being dedicated midbasses if i were to use like a 5.25 for a midrange? i'm just hypothesizing to get a better understanding. i think i should pickup the loudspeaker design cookbook. would probably answer some of this stuff.

bill, right i agree it would be more of an ib setup. would a high or low qts work in this type setup? even if i can fg the door panel to hold a midbass and possibly midrange, it would still be a sorta ib cuz the door wouldnt be completely sealed and i dont want to add 100lbs of deadener just for this.
