Welcome . Take it to Autozone of Advance to have the Check Engine light codes read and post the codes.

If you are not getting power when you hit 4000 RPM, it could be a faulty Intake Manifold Runner Control. If it is in all RPMs, then check the Spark plug wiring order first and then the SP gap.

SP wires could also be the problem. I would suggest checking the gap if you did not gap the plugs and check wiring order again.

Note the 4-6-5 for the coil pack near the firewall side.

Firewall side
4- 6 -5 <--coil pack
3-2-1

1-2-3 <--engine
4-5-6
Radiator side

Spark Plug gap 0.054 inch

The first thing you should check is your battery and alternator.

Charge the battery well and then test battery and alternator. Your symptoms could be a weak or dying battery (probably due to a bad alternator).

Battery test. Engine off, headlights on for one minute. Voltage across battery terminals should be 12 to 12.5.

Alternator test. Engine running, voltage across battery terminals should be 14 to 14.5.

Or send it to your friendly Autozone or Advance Auto for a free check.

Then check the Fuse Holder (No. 11) and wiring under the Power Distribution Box next to the battery

While you are under the hood, open up the Power Distribution Box next to the battery and remove Fuses 6 and 11 for a few minutes. This will reset the computer. If the code appeared as a one time glitch, then it won't show up anymore. If it appears again, then we will have to figure out what could be the problem.

Actually, my mistake, for the 2000 Contour, I think it is Fuses 6 (ignition) and 11 (KAM). Those with the 2000 manual can confirm.
