The problem doesn't really show itself until you change turbos or highly modify the stock one. The stock one doesn't flow enough air to hold the power it makes to redline. So when someone with a stock turbo SRT claims they make 300hp, which is fairly easy to do...know that's a peak number and by redline they're probably around 265 or so. They make a "SST" turbo (super stock turbo) that does flow a little better...but the downside is all the heat created from forcing it to flow so much air. With the bigger turbos once they spool up they hit insanely hard and hold it to redline.

With the Caliber coming with 300hp from the factory it should be pretty interesting to see how it does out of the box as far as torque steer goes.

If you get axles to hold the power the weakest link is then move to something within the transmission. The axles are relativly inexpensive for one and for two you could do both of them within an hour if you really tried to. I'd much rather fix those than having clutch or other transmission issues. I have the ACT clutch and I plan on leaving my axles alone.

Street tires are worthless witih your power. Theres really no reason to even try at the track with those. Honestly with the power you have and the way boost builds on our cars, theres nothing you can do on street tires to do much better. The only thing you can do is roll out in 1st gear and go half throttle, shift to 2 and go half throbble, then nail it in 3rd. Even with that you'll only hit a mid 13 but your trap speeds will be like 117mph.

My suggestion is to get BFG drag radials. I spin first still (and every SRT always will without slicks) but second is much more managable. It will only spin the tires a very slight bit, but it still pulls the car insanely hard so it's not a problem. I have 225/50/15 drag radials, but they make 225's in 17". I'd suggest not getting the 17" ones without getting wider wheels. The stock wheels are only 6" wide which is retarded.

everyone on srtfourms is saying the axles should be replaced, cause they'll keep breaking on you. the all say the tranny is fine, it's not a cheap ford tranny, it won't throw diff pins or anything like that, so they said it's not that important to upgrade to a lsd unless you're a road racer. but if i put slicks on, with my power, they said axles won't last long.

Who is "they"? I'm friends with a few of the more "popular" (read that as older, mature and experienced) guys on the forums and they all say just stick with '04 axles. If you have an '03 then definitly "upgrade" but upgrade to the '04/'05 axles. There are plenty of people making tons of passes on slicks with stock axles. Two of the three 10 second cars are factory axles.

The '04s are the ones with the best transmissions BTW. They come with the LSD (which you don't get in '03) and they don't have problems with synchros or exploding clutchs like some of the '05s have been recently.

No I don't know how severe of an accident it was in, it was a front end crash if that helps. I know that it was all completely replaced back to normal with authentic everything. I will have to talk to the owner instead of the wife, he was on vaca when I called. She said he was willing to take best offer also. Everything is so clean on it too.

Wouldn't it be better to buy a salvaged one and then diy? He probably bought it for no more than 3,500 then dumped another say 3 into it.

Even so this is a tremendous deal, and to everyone else out there that dogs on these cars, everyone to their own. If you like it then drive it. Lots of people dog on the SVT's but I still like mine and don't care what they say.

It looks great. Is that worth it to pick up say if one had the cash flow?

Buy it and sell me your CSVT.

I will consider but I thought you wanted one with lower miles. PM me.

Well for one thing if my parents would let me have 2 cars I'd do it, and I'd need to learn stick, and I need a loan, co-signer (my g/f might do it I'm sure she knows how much I want a CSVT ) and mileage is a factor too. My car is a 97 with almost 83K on it.

With front end stuff you really need to be careful, espicially on FWD vehicles. I'd ask if they wouldn't mind letting you take it to a suspension/front end shop and have them check it out. It could have been done right, but spending that much money it's one of those things you really want to make sure, ya know? Otherwise it sounds great.

Yup, well I told them not to hold their breath last i talked to them, I needed to seel some things before I got to it. But if everything goes rapidly and for a good price on my part well then I would have enough for a awesome down payment on something if that car is gone. Believe me I would do some big time analysis on this car before buying it. It would need to last me a long time. Thanks for all your input I will keep you guys updated.

as a car in general, it's one of the lamest ever. it's stereotyped as a girls car, most don't have many options, hell, mine doesn't have power windows in the back or cruise control! for the most part, they're [censored] boxes, only thing with an srt is that they're fast [censored] boxes.
