Wanted something to liven up the system in the Evo. Didn't want a single subwoofer because 1) I would also need to purchase an amp (extra cost) and 2) I needed to conserve space for groceries, stroller, etc. So I searched for a powered bass tube. Searched around sites/Ebay and found a new Bazooka 8in EL series tube. Rated at 50 watts. Installed it yesterday.

Pros:

Compact size. Fit real nice right behind the seat in the trunk. Still have A LOT of space in the trunk.

Easy install. Comes with a wiring harness that plugs right into the back of the enclosure. With an amp wiring kit you literally have to hook up a few wires. Even easier if you have an aftermarket deck with RCA outputs.

Sound. For 50 watts this thing puts out a lot of sound. With it all done it sounds like a factory subwoofer. Very clean sound with no distortion. (that is assuming you have the levels adjusted properly)

Cons:

Any tighter, faster bass really isn't caught with the tube. (Heavy metal, techo beats, etc) It can be remedied with a nice set of components in the inside of the car.

Overall I am impressed with the Bazooka bass tube. Relatively inexpensive with a "factory" sound, which I was looking for.

I've always pictured bazooka tubes for people who want to fill in those bass notes, but not have a lot of extra weight/space taken up. I imagine they're popular in trucks, but for most people, I bet they'd be pretty sufficient. a lot of people knock them I guess because they feel as though they aren't "as good as a lot of other stuff," but for the average joe who wants some bass I figure it'd do the job pretty well.

BassLink
Did you ever consider the Infinity bass link, it is a little bit more money and is close to the same size unit 200w rms like the bazooka, but has a 10".

I know you happy with what you got just wondering what other options you considered.

i didn't know they still made those. I remember when my friends and I were younger we took an extra 15 inch speaker and made a bazooka out of it. The tube was about four feet long. LOL.

I considered the Basslink but don't have the extra money. I wanted something a little more as far as bass that wouldn't cause my daughter to lose here hearing. All in all I am happy with my decision to go with the Bazooka tube. Only spent $65 total.

Tube shaped subs are great because they are usually much less resonant and are typically lightweight.

Just a pic of the install.

It is lightweight. Only weighs 14 lbs IIRC.

i guess this is where i say... Ditto... just put one in tonight

if you mount it with the speaker grill like 3-4 inches from the trunk wall it will hit harder

i havent turned it all the way up yet but it shakes the rear view

did you instal it from an aftermarket hu or the factory one?

The EL8A was the first sub i ever had...bought it brand new for my old 91 Tracer. When you hear the sub then realize that it's only like 50 or 60 watts peak, it's quite impressive.

I took it out of that car and moved on to something bigger, it had been sitting my bedroom for like 3 years collecting dust, just last week i gave it to a buddy for free.
