has anyone ever changed the starter on a 98' Mystique V6? And has pictures with how-to's?

I have a couple of SMALL videos that simply point out the starter, orients you to its location, etc. There is, IIRC, a how to on CEG for the starter, and you can EASILY do it.


Why do you think you need to replace your starter, btw?

From Ford CD, 2.5L Engine, Starter.

Removal

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. Remove engine air cleaner.

3. Remove fuel supply and return tubes from fuel tube support bracket located on accelerator cable bracket and remove fuel tube support bracket.

4. On automatic transaxle-equipped vehicles, remove gear selector cable and gear shift cable bracket from transaxle.

5. Remove engine air cleaner mounting bracket from engine and transmission support insulator.

6. Remove integral connector retaining nut from starter solenoid.

7. Remove integral connector from starter solenoid and position connector and cable out of the way.

8. Remove starter motor to transaxle case retaining bolt at rear of starter motor.

9. Remove two starter motor retaining bolts from top of starter motor.

10. Lift starter motor and disengage alignment pins from transaxle case. Carefully remove starter motor from vehicle.

Installation

1. Position starter motor to transaxle case. Install two starter motor retaining bolts finger-tight.

2. Install starter motor to transaxle case retaining bolt at rear of starter motor finger-tight.

3. Tighten all starter motor retaining bolts to 21-29 N-m (15-21 lb-ft).

4. Install integral connector to starter solenoid. Tighten B-terminal nut to 10.2-13.8 N-m (91-122 lb-in). Tighten S-terminal nut to 4.5-6.3 N-m (40-55 lb-in).

5. Install engine air cleaner mounting bracket to engine and transmission support insulator. Tighten retaining bolts to 20-30 N-m (15-22 lb-ft).

6. Install gear selector cable and gear shift cable bracket to transaxle on automatic transaxle equipped vehicles.

7. Install fuel tube support bracket to accelerator cable bracket. Tighten retainer securely.

8. Install fuel supply and return tubes to support bracket located on accelerator cable bracket.

9. Install engine air cleaner.

10. Connect battery ground cable.
