To all who travel westbound on 696 between Lasher and Telegraph/M-10:

Just after you go under the M-10 overpass, the road goes down to two lanes, just like always, but here is the caution:

!!! There is approx. a 3 inch raised section of the road just west of the overpass (in what I can tell, the LH lane)!!!

I hit it going about 50 MPH with 215/55/17 and OMG did my car shake. I caution anyone with soft tires, rims and/or tight suspension to slow down, get to the right and hold on.

That is all.

-Tim

p.s. buy my SVT Parts.

Edit : apparently I can't spell suspension.

Thanks for the heads up.

On a flip note, the horrid M-14 is pothole less! They finished the newer lanes and have opened it up to both sides. However, traffic flow is congested b/c it is open to one lane going both ways.

I'm still in shock of the turn-around. A pothole-less M-14, it brings a tear to my eye !!! Only problem is I won't be going to Ann Arbor as much anymore. Four years of brutal beating on the suspension...

It's really good to hear that M-14 is finally smooth. I've been avoiding that trash for about three months now, and I definately wasn't going to touch it with my new Bilsteins and BAT springs until I heard such a report as this one.

Thanks for the update.

I usually just skip 696 and take 8 mile now... it's easier and i don't have to worry about the contruction... once it's done I'll switch back.

M-14 is nice now, definately. Just be wary, if you're coming from Ann Arbor into Detroit near the overpasses they do some very crazy turns -- while these turns are nothing major, it tends to scare the living crap out of every old person on the road, and they suddenly brake. I go through here at least 3 times a week, and every time I've passed this area people slam on the brakes and go from 60+ to 40 instantly, almost causing chain reactions every time. It's just ugly, so be warned and keep some distance from the person in front of you, even if they are crawling.

lol..funny you should mention that. Before, they opened up the new lanes, they had that entrance coned off with the turns you mentioned. I would always have at least 15 cars behind me getting annoyed b/c I was driving too slow. I couldn't help it, with the potholes. I would never dare go over 50mph (These crazy bastids would do like 65mph on that torn up #@#%). Anyways, as M-14 ends, 96 Starts near 275 exit, that's where I would speed up b/c the potholes would stop around there. I always loved seeing those bastids pushing me at least a hundred feet behind me trying to keep up in their SUVs and whatnot. However, you're correct, it's a pile-up waiting to happen. Very rarely would I have the oppurtunity to go fast there, plus I only did it when somebody was pushing me the entire route of M14 for no reason. Regardless, it's a series of fun turns if nobody is ahead of you.

Well someone might have thought you meant some other road named Lasher

I was actually driving that the way home from Southfield campus the other day and I remembered what you said. Sure enough I hit it but had slowed down enough where it didn't hurt too much. My CD skipped but it probably would have been worse if it wasn't for your post. So thank you. But it still is Lahser!!
