I have a 98 SVT, when i take it from the garage, it hauls nicely, but after a few minutes on the interstate in the hot air, the power is intermittant, like the car is suffoicating or something...hard to explain, its almost jerky the way the power curve acts. What can cause this, the engine block has less then 30K on it, with magnacore wires, motorcraft platinum plugs, i have a kkm intake, proflow maf with calibrator, bat y-pipe, and bosal cat back exhaust, and yet my car is slower then stock after it heats up. Any suggestions?

1) Spark Plug gap or wiring order.

...if you removed SP or wires recently.

The first thing to check is the SP wiring order and gap.
Duratec V6 Spark Plug wiring order. Note the 4-6-5 for the coil pack near the firewall side.

Firewall side
4- 6 -5 <--coil pack
3-2-1

1-2-3 <--engine
4-5-6
Radiator side

Spark Plug gap 0.054 inch

Scan and post codes.

2) IMRC failure (lack of power at higher than 3.5K RPM).

Did you get a P1512, P1513 or P1519 code?
Read this.

If it is intermittent failure, you may want to relocate the IMRC before it is too late.

Read cvkillacontour98's post in this thread.
http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=perf&Number=749718&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=all&vc=1

and if it is too late, you need Mr. Hightower's how to.
http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=v6maint&Number=1249131&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=all&vc=1

3) Maybe fuel pump

4) Maybe heat soak.

The two things I would look at first would be the IMRC operation and hot air feeding into your intake system.

One of the ways that the IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Control) fails is in an intermittant manner, particularly when hot.If the secondaries are not opening there will be a large loss of power above about 4000 RPM.

It is common knowledge that if you install an open element air intake system and allow it to suck underhood air, it will have lousy performance in hot weather. You need to find a way to get cold air up to it or a way to block the hot underhood air from reaching it. Some have made an underhood air dam with something as simple as a cut up trash can lid.

Did this problem start after you made all those mods or has it been going on for a while? You might have to back-track everything you've done to find out what one thing is causing the problem. I think there were some past threads on Magnacore wires misbehaving but I'm not sure. Maybe they were on the FMS ones. Hot air into the intake would be my first choice and misfiring plugs due to the wires would be a close second.

You can rule out firing order because if it was indeed that he would barely get out of the garage. The firing order gives an immediate reaction if it is out of sequence.

OK, its only been happening for a while, but i have had all the mods eversince i put the engine in, and after about 10K on the engine, everything started, the only other thing i installed since then is my proflow maf and calibrator...however, stock maf acts same way.

the other thing that did happen is that my voltage was spiking one night, and my battery blew up, causing battery acid to get sucked into my intake, all the wya to the throttle body there was some corrosion...

and what is the imrc?!

imrc controls your secondaries. Located under the plastic cover on the front of your engine.

Read the links posted previously. Intake Manifold Runner Control. Supposed to control the secondary butterfly valves. Opens when it is above 3,500 to 4,000 RPM so that more air can go into the engine. If the secondaries are stuck closed, you will experience a "no power feeling" above those RPMs.
