Welcome . Stick with what is written or suggested in Owners' Manual. A lower octane will have lower power and engine will retard to prevent "knock" resulting in bad fuel consumption. Can't save money there.

Download an Owners' Manual www.fleet.ford.com

Edit. Save money on gas by driving slower (less wind resistance = better gas mileage) .

If anybody wants me dead, please start a new thread with this exact same question. Because the next time I see it asked, I'm putting 87 octane gas in my car, and driving into oncoming traffic!

Canadianballer - If you're such a baller, put the right friggin' gas in your car. I know you "gotz da hoez to take out in dat pimp ride of yo's," but wow.

wow! Someone needs another beer or something.

But to the original poster...Is it really that big of a deal? So you have to put premium gas in your ride, it costs about $2 more at the pump each fill up. Of course it adds up but seriously...If it is that much of a big deal to you, why didn't you buy a Toyota Prius(sp?) or something.

Seriously, you can put 87 junk in your car. They have a knock sensor and an ecu for a reason. But really, why would you do that to a svt? Go grab up a zetec or regular duratec.

Ok, so 1 post wasn't enough to tell him he needs premium fuel? Chill out people, damn. Tony already posted to tell him, no need for everyone to yell at him and repeat the same thing over and over.

Are u talking to me? I wasn't yelling. AFAIK, people post on a forum to get multiple opinions. And it looks like me and tony are the only ones to say he can safely drive on a lower octane but would be better off not. Chill out with them chill out posts.

ROTFL at all the misunderstanding and misinterpretation of posts and replies. Kremit, Tony (CSVT1214) wasn't referring to you. He was just making a general statement and being nice to a newbie.

and then Tony2005 runs away and hides from this thread.
