There are plenty of posts concerning warm a/c air, none that I could find with this same issue. Sorry if this is a duplicate.

I have a '98 Contour SE, 2.5L Duratech, Automatic.

When I turn on the A/C, all of the vents blow hot air for a few minutes. This is normal. The passenger side vent soon blows nice, cool air. The two middle vents eventually blow somewhat cool air. The driver side vent never cools off. This is in the afternoon heat of an August day in Kansas, pretty warm. In the evening, the A/C works slightly better, but the middle and left vents are still very weak.

Note: The refrigerant was recharged about one month ago, and the A/C compressor clutch assembly was replaced last week as it was falling apart. The clutch seems to engage just fine when the A/C is on.

What now? My dad mentioned that this problem could possiby be due to some sort of door that switches between heat and A/C. Perhaps it is stuck, letting only a bit of cool air through?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, this looks like good info. I'll give it a shot.
