As ya'll stated I took the car to Autozone, and had them scan the comp and trouble code PO455 came up. They said it was a large leak in the evaporative emmisions control system.

Could you tell me if the trouble code really is what they told me, I even got a printout stating this was the problem. The motor was replaced a few years ago could this be something they didn't do right at the dealership. The problem started happening after the warranty on the new engine ran out!

..

Correct.

Make sure your gas cap is on tight (at least 3 clicks after closing). Also check that cap is clean (no dust or dirt in the inside-rubber? gasket). Then erase codes and if CEL comes on again, post the new codes.

Refer to this TSB 03-20-3 with the first line stating to check for a loose fuel cap first.

"MANY EVAP LEAKS ARE CAUSED BY A LOOSE OR FAULTY CAP"

http://www.ford-trucks.com/tsb/fulltext/show_article.php?tsb=03-20-3

To rest PCM,
Pull Fuses 4 and 11 (in the Power Distribution Box next to the battery) for a few minutes. Of course, if the cap is loose, it will come on again after a few drive cycles.

Take it to a shop that has a "smoke machine" and have them leak test the system.

Without one, you'd just as well fart into a hurricane.

Will my local mechanic have a smoke machine? And will it cost much to fix, cuz money's kinda tight.

"Will my local mechanic have a smoke machine?"
Maybe but your best bet would be the Ford dealer.

"And will it cost much to fix".
The diagnosis would probably be one hour but fixing the problem will depend on what the problem is. Read the TSB again for an idea of what could be the issues.
