Here's the deal:
I hate my damn bank, they don't do anything online aside from check your balance and their hours blow. Like 8am - noon on sat and they close early every other day like 3-4pm...
My parents have convinced me not to leave the bank (credit union) because its what they use. But today I missed their hours by 10 minutes and their ATM was broken. They also charge me 1$ to get money out even at their atm, so I am saying [censored] them. I am walking in monday and closing all 3 of my accounts and taking all my money out in cash and giving them the finger.
Now I need another bank. Anyone have good experiences with a major bank that has plenty of ATM's and good hours? I don't give a crap about the interest rate they give me on my money since most times I have less then 500$ in... so an extra 1% doens't mean jack to me. Anyone?

Credit Unions usually have fewer fees. One of the businesses that I work for pays me with a check from AmSouth Bank. The bank always takes my finger print every time I cashed a check there. The last time AmSouth refused to cash an AmSouth check unless I had an account there. AmSouth Bank said they would only cash the check if I paid a hefty fee. I'm glad I have an account at a credit union.
You might be able to get a credit union credit card to pay for things with. Most credit unions will give a credit card with a low credit limit. The credit card will help you establish credit if you pay on time each month.

Bank Austria I have online banking but they won't give me a bank card that works outside of their bank. That is to say, even the ATMs outside of the bank do not work, I have to go inside the foyer to get money. On the other hand I can take all the money out of my account from those ATMs; I once took out 1500 euros at one time. I can't recall a US ATM letting me do that.

Personally, I don't like banks all that much. However, BOA is my bank of choice. Only for checking though. Bank fees SUCK and they try their hardest to get you to pay them in one way or another as well. But, I couldn't beat BOA's convience since they're everywhere. My liquid savings account and car loan is at a credit union because if you have good credit a bank's rates can't touch a good credit union's rates.
Case in point, my credit union just gave me a rate of 4.99%/60 months on my wife's Caliber. No bank, including the online ones could touch that right now.

look around for a local branch that has free everything - checking, free debit card, unlimited online banking, free at all of their atms and their affiliate's atms, free balance transfers, no minimum balances in either savings or checking, etc etc etc. A lot of banks will have a pamphlet that will show you where all their atms are located.
The only thing I pay for is paper checks, and I've had the account for 8 years - only ordered checks twice since then. Even if a payee isn't set up for receiving electronic payments, the bank will draft a check and mail it to the payee, so that still saves me in checks.
I use TD Banknorth. They have extended hours on Thursdays, up until 7:00. I rarely need it, but it really is helpful.
Asking people on here what they use may not help you, unless they're using a bank that is located nationwide, or they're local to you.

My local credit union is great. No atm charge at their atms, free overdraft protection, free checking account, plenty of stuff available on phone/online, and good customer service.
Best of luck to you on finding a good bank. Like said above, I'd try to find a good local bank.

5th/3rd isnt bad... I go to Comerica and they have done nothing but screw me. Charge me for services I didnt sign up for... They stated I overdrew in my checking acount, so they charged me 7.50 and transfered funds for me... But when reading the statement, they said I overdrew when I still had $140 left in my account O_o But on the plus side, I get 5 online funds transfers a month they didnt charge me extra for web banking, I got a debit card when I was 17, and they usualy are pretty friendly... My guess is all of the mistakes that were made were dumb ones and non intentional, I have probably given them too many chances but its so easy to get to one, there are 3 locations here in town and where im going to school nearly double that.

Wells Fargo has been great for me, but I've also heard nothing but great things about Washington Mutual.
