With winter coming (Canada it's all the time) I'm looking for a decently priced tire that I can pick up and put on the stock rims (205/60-15 but most of you know that already) I was looking on Tire Rack and found ...

Kumho Touring Plus 732 -> cheapest at $43 a tire poor ice traction

Yokohama AVID TRZ -> $59 a tire but great ice and snow traction (vs. the Kumhos).

I'm probably going to keep these on all the time and not going to get winter tires (yes i'm crazy )... but what do you guys think have worked for you all?

Just get Winterforce and run them all the time. They're as cheap as all-seasons and work better except for faster wear. I think a little faster wear is acceptable for massively better snow traction.

Winter tire's aren't MADE of ice, they GRIP on ice.

Seriously, they're fine. I know several people that run them all year, and I've done it.

As far as the couple of winter tires that somehow made it into our tire warehouse down here, they really don't look too much different than a regular tire. They have the parts that should give better winter traction, but really they aren't gonna wear out on dry hot road much more than other tires.

I had to use my Blizzaks in the spring for a short time while I was trying to find my Superleggeras online. They drove fine, but they got very soft in the heat, and from the time I got them, which was only the beginning of the winter, to the time I took them off, I noticed a lot of tread lost.

I've never been unhappy with Yokohama tires.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I mean during higher temeperatures the rubber that was meant to soft in the cold, will be TOO Soft in the summer, that's what I'm trying to ask.

yes they will. snow tires are meant for cold conditions, so they are designed for a low temperature. when you drive then in hot conditions, the rubber gets very soft and as a resualt, wears much faster and more than regular tires would in hot conditions.

how bad do you need tires? id just get some decent summer tires for now...then in the winter, buy some cheap snows.
