I just bolted my tranny up to my 3L 03' Taurus block. I got all the bolts in just fine except for 2 of them which are the lowest 2 on the trans. One of the holes doesn't line up, and the other is way off. Everything else is together perfectly and torqued. I do have the backing plate on as well. Did anyone have the same issue with a couple bolts not lining up? think it will matter, since 6 of 8 are on, and there are the moutns that will hold the tranny in when in the engine bay....

any input is appreciated

Thats what I thought, I haven't read anything about [censored] not lining up....but sure enough 2 bolts holes don't line up. The tranny is in correctly, Lined up how it should be...1 of the holes Is about half way on, half off (picture the olympic logo) and the other doesn't even come close. I'll go and take some pictures and see if anyone see's what I messed up or whats screwy.

The first 2 pictures are the holes where bolts are missing/don't line up...

These are pictures showing the rest of the tranny bolted up...

Are you using the wrong oil pan?

you can use the 3L pan still...I did. For one of the holes...I drilled a hole in through the pan...and used a hardened washer to pinch it on and the other I just left off.

Mine has been fine.

Yea, that crossed my mind, but the one hole thats closest, If I drill the oil pan, there won't be enough meat on there and any pressure would definatly crack it off/out.

I would like to know if anyone thinks it's major, like if those 2 trans bolts are a must have to be in there or not. If not, I can just run with how I am, if they are a huge deal, and will cause problems (I have no idea what problems they would/could cause) then I'll have to switch pans...

I had a problem with my HMS transmission being damaged in transit. While talking with TH about my repair options, he said, if I remember correctly, that the most important mounting points were at the metal bushings near the top of the engine. The second most vital mounting point(and one that people tend to overlook and under-tighten) are the ones on the oil pan.

I'd be very inclined to use the appropriate pan rather than modify and hope for the best.

modifying is def. out of the question. Looks like tomorrow I get to remove the 3L oil pan and install the 2.5L one. Thanks for the advice fellas.
