so while i was rotating the tires and changing the oil today, i noticed that there is a large amount of oil on the transmittion case.

its not to the point where it is dripping onto the ground, but the control arm and frame is completly covered in trans oil and as you can see in the photos, a lot of the transmition is too. i was just wondering if this was any kind of concern for me and if so...what could i do?

its a 98 mystique with 63K ATX zetec

thanks for any help

It might be, or it might not really be much of a concern at all. Start by cleaning it up and keep checking it to more clearly define where it is coming from.

A full rebuild (no sense pulling a high mileage CD4E only to replace the pump seal) is much more expensive than adding a quart every 1,000 miles ... or so ... depends ... how much oil are you loosing? Is it puddeling under the car at night? How oftern do you check/add fluid?

I hope you see where I'm going with this. As long as the trans is running good, I would simply keep an eye on the leak and keep adding fluid. When you are adding a quart or more within a month, then I would consider pulling it for a full rebuild IF you plan on keeping the car.

Keep an eye on the trans oil level and add as needed.

So, does she shift nicely? How many miles on the trans/car?

yeah, i will be checking it often. there are 63K on the trans/engine/car and it still shifts great! (for an ATX lol) no slipping or hard shifts whatsoever.

Yes, you are being a little paranoid here ... just check the trans oil level with every oil change or at each gas fillup ... if it's not dripping on the ground, you should have nothing to worry about.
