Scott,

Putting on the new rear brake drums solved the weak parking brake (slipping) problem we discussed.

Got mine at NAPA (Easton Electrical Devices, Northampton Street) for $44 each I think it was. American made and cheaper than A-Zone or Advance

Hey thanks for the info. I'll have to get the money together and pick up a new set.

Can you powder coat drums? If I get a new set I would like them not to turn to the rust coating like the ones on the rear now...

I don't see why not, as Eastwood Company in Pottstown sells a high-temp powder selling at $20.99 a 1/2 lb.

Or, you can just go to Auto Zone and buy rattle cans of VHT high temp paint for, what? $12.99?

I just slapped my drums on as they came out of the box because I was in a hurry to give the car back to college daughter for a road trip.

Next week I might just pull and paint them, along with the front rotors which already are developing rust after a few weeks.

Eastwood also sells a 1200-degree high temp coating in gray, stainless steel, silver and black for $15.00 a can.

They advertise it as a header coating.

I go to Easton Electrical. I get my WIX filters there.

I'm glad that the new drums solved the slipping problem.

I bought powder coat from eastwood before. It was for my one of my HS metal shop projects, but I gave what was left to the metal shop because I don't have a powder coater myself.

I've used the Dupont(?) "aluminium" 1200 degree paint on my exhaust. I go over the welds every 3-4 months. It at least slowed the rust.

I'll have to try the black on the drums when I order them.

Well, it was my mistake. I found my bill from there and the drums were more like $49 each.

Auto Zone might have some "economy" flavor for $28 or something.

Point is, if your parking brake isn't holding, and the drums have a edge on the wear places, it's a good chance the drums are worn out. My new ones are letting the parking brake hold nicely now.
