Hi folks,

I've got a lead on a 1999 SVT Contour that I'm considering buying, but it's outside the Seattle area (where I live), so I don't have the convenience of "stopping by" for a test drive. I'm interested in the SVTCs, but I have no experience with them at all (they're so rare) - I've only ridden/driven in Focus SVTs and Taurus SHOs. I imagine the Contours split the difference, but I need to get a feel before I go out of my way to go look at this car (would probably require a flight to Eastern Washington). My question:

Is there anyone with a more or less stock SVT Contour willing to give a guy a short test drive (or even a ride around town) in one? I'd appreciate the education, and it would make me more comfortable about checking out this one I've seen for sale.

Any help would be appreciated!

I would, but mine is currently in pieces due to clutch and transmission upgrades.

That is a highly effective demo, Shotwell.

LOL!

I'd give you a demo if I lived up your way. Even if you can't catch a ride with someone, I wouldn't worry about not liking how CSVTs handle. Just go check it out and if it's in good shape -- buy it! Then come to a meet we'll hopefully be having soon.

Wow... I finally saw my first SVTC in the wild... (This is how hard to come by they seem to be for me) Anyone driving a beautiful black one in perfect stock shape up in the Northgate area today? I half thought about flagging them down, but I doubt they would have much understood my need to ride in their car...

I'm still looking for an opportunity if anyone's got one. Unfortunately, I'm not so much the adventurous type with big purchases, and I already own two cars (a '94 SHO ATX and a '98 Neon R/T), so the SVT would really be pushing it - I'd need to really like what I'm getting. The one I'm looking at is very low miles and owned by a older gentleman, so it's in great shape, but it's also a bit pricier. Add to that the price of the ticket to get out to where it is, and I've gotta be *really* sure. Thanks for all the input!

I was in northseattle a few weeks ago and saw a really clean black one on 18's. He was a Red Robin and on the way home I saw another Green heading south on I5 by the casino. Haven't seen that many SVT's since I lived In san diego a few years back.

If you're willing to drive down to the puyallup area I'd let you drive mine.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the offer, but my opportunity has passed... The chance to buy the Contour was contingent upon our ability to sell another car, and I don't think that's going to happen... A truly incredible specimen too - keep an eye out on seattle.craigslist.org - I think that it's going to be posted there very soon...

Thanks again everyone!

OMG, don't be a facilitator for a serial car purchase addiction! NEVER tell Mike to keep an eye out on Craigslist for cars. (Have you any idea of how many cars he already owns? And I hope you're NOT selling a Chevy Monte Carlo.)
