...and it def. saved my butt today. Evidently when I changed the oil 1,500 miles ago I didn't tighten the filter enough. The oil dripping down onto the exhaust piping made smoke which I saw rising from under the hood. I had only lost about a quart, but still glad I saw it when I did. Might be a PITA for a clean oil change but I really don't mind it after today...

I had that happen to me some time ago. I was driving and it was in the city and then I see smoke coming from the hood, and thought, hmm? I go home and look under and didn't notice anything too out of place. I then realized I did an oil change not too long ago and drove to my father's house where he has the tools and checked and tightened the filter.
Just as you said, not too bad at all.

My g/f's Nissan Sentra is harder to do than the Duratec. I don't mind doing my oil change at all. Her oil filter is angled the opposite way on the engine, so when you loosen it, out pours the oil from the filter down onto your hand and arm. At least on the Duratec it's angled the correct way and only a small amount gets onto you or the car.

Yeah i have had 2 Probes with that same 2.0L it does suck pretty bad especially trying to keep your hands from getting burned if the engine is warm. I've probably burned myself a half dozen times but i'm gettin pretty good at it now lol

You should try doing a Jeep Liberty Limited with the big fan shroud. I had to make a tool to fit between the swaybar and the frame to get the filters in/out

Sounds like a good place for a remote mount.

try poking a hole in it with an awl in the lowest point to slowly drain the oil from the filter. i do it with the duratec and gets most of the oil out so it doesnt go all over my hands.

Oil change on our cars is very easy, I don't get what everyone's complaints are about.
Now maybe with aftermarket headers, I could see a problem.
