So I've searched the suspension forums, found a couple of threads, but still not 100% satisfied. Coming home from work today, I was turning onto my street. I'm in the median, waiting for oncoming traffic to pass. I've got the wheel pretty much full clock to the left. I see an opening, and get on it a little bit. Everything is fine, and I get up to the side street that my driveway is on. Turning right, I hear a whining/howling noise. Then, turning left into my driveway, I hear the same noise. Get into my garage, turn left and right, and I still hear it. The car is up on jack stands right now, and nothing is leaking. Does this just sound like air in the p/s lines? Should I be worried about the rack & pinion going out? This is the first time this has happened(now at 88k miles). Thanks!!

I'd definitely suspect air in it before the rack being badd. Do you feel any jittering in the wheel while turning?
if the noise is more exhagerated sitting still and turning lock to lock, than while moving (and the whining is more of a groan) I'd try multiple attempts at flushing the fluid with fresh PS fluid and cycling the air out. lock to lock a few times, then add fluid (slowly so as not to draw air straight down while pouring), lock to lock again to work the air out. Turkey baster to suck the fluid (new and old mixed) out. top off, again and lock to lock. Drive around for a day or two and repeat. each time the fluid will get "newer" and "newer" as the old and new mix, and are removed to be replaced with 100% new.

If the fluid is low the pump makes a noise like you are describing.

Well, I've been driving the car ever since, and there is no suspect of it happening again. While I had the car up on jack stands, I did go clock to clock, to see if I could bleed the air out. Put the car back on the ground, fired it up, drove around the block, and nothing. Everything is back to normal. I'm wondering if that violent, full clock left, WOT burst just sloshed the p/s fluid around enough to do something. Thanks for the replies everyone!

So the p/s pump is still making noise, but usually when the car has been sitting for a while, or is cold. It will usually go away after I drive for a little bit. Tonight I'll try to see if maybe I have a problem with the belt getting oil on it, as I think I do have a small oil leak at the rear valve cover(new gasket from Ford is a POS).

Yes, that is typical of bleeding the air. You should do this a few more times (and add fluid if the level goes down). Maybe that was all that was, i.e. air in the system.
