I read the faq, and it says do a drain and fill first, as a flush can damage it. What fluid should I use, any advantage in going synthetic?

Tranny has 260K kms on it, and I have no idea what it has seen ( got the car used ).

Thanks in advance!

I just changed the fluid in my 02 Explorer...didn't look like it had ever been done before...then the tranny would barely work. Now it is in the shop getting it rebuilt.

since its an auto i would recommend doing a drain and fill. alot of times if you flush a high mileage trans you end up takeing out all the little particles that are still makeing it work. wiht that high of mileage i would actually begin to think aobut a rebuild (espically if your thinking about changing the fluid cause there is a problem)
