Well, sounds like my engine is on it way out.
Every time you start it "Knock, Knock, Knock" until oil pressure builds up. Then as you drive along you can only hear it when you pass something with your windows down, unless you get above 4grand then you can hear it all the time.

I forgot to check the oil for two months after we got back from vacation. Every freeway interance is a long sweeping right hand turn and I have a horrible time keeping my foot out of the gas when no one is in front of me. Needless to say I have gotten the light several times. The other times I had full oil and it was just a brief flicker. This time it came on strong.

What would everyone think about an electric conversion?

If you do a 3L hybrid does the engine end up with the same problem of not letting the oil out of the head fast enough?

Yes it ends up with the same problem, hybrids are useless now days. Although back before the 2001 motors were available, it was the only option. Grab a 2001+ 3L and call it a day. Good luck

If I decide to go with the 3L I will let you know. I definitely will not put a 2.5 back in.

I probably should have posted this in the 3L forum.

I disagree. 36k miles on my hybrid 3L now, still running strong, putting out good numbers, and very reliable. For peace of mind, you can always run an Accusump. With the full oval port available, it's hard not to go that route, but I don't think you should rule out the hybrid by any means.

There is nothin' wrong with the2.5 as long as you keep 6-6.5qts of petrol in there. Mine has 130,000+ miles now and has been beat on pretty hard, and i have never heard so much as a whisper out of the bottom end. (knock on wood! lol)

Well if you wanted to build a hybrid, I would just get some 01+ 2.5L heads which have the better drain backs. Or just keep lots of oil in it.

Running my 2.5L on close to 150k miles, still hits 140 and drives like a champ besides the electrical problems....

Heh ok I should have said 01+ oval port motors are the easiest most hassle free route to take. A hybrid will still put out good numbers and be as reliable as any 2.5L was from the factory. One thing I've wondered is if you take a 01+ 2.5L heads off a Cougar and get some 3L valves put in them, do you not get the best of both worlds? High compression and the assurance of 3 drain back vales per head with the same air flow of a 3L head because of the valves?

is there alot of power to be had with doing the hybrid swap plus your main bolt ons (intake headers exhaust UDP) while still keeping a good reliable engine?
