I'm getting a wheel bearing replaced on Friday. I already have a new Ford bearing and went to pick up a axle nut today. AutoZone and Advanced don't carry them seperate. I found it pretty weird. So I was on my way to the stealership and forgot a Napa was on the way.

He looked it up and said not available but they happened to have a 4 cyl axle in stock. He grabbed the axle and took the nut off and said I can take it and try if I want. Didn't even charge me for it. So I didn't complain.

Are the 4 cyl and V6 axles using the same nut? I'm assuming they are but just wanted to double check before I screw something up.

i think the nut that comes with the axle is a regular nut and not a stacked one like from ford.
not sure if that makes a difference or not.

The "stacked nut" has a very thick (at least 1/8") washer built in. I was able to break these apart from the nut and reuse them as the replacement axle nut didn't have a large enough "seat". I just took care to center the washer before torquing the nut.

Why don't you just go and but the nut at a Ford Parts Dept. whats the worst it could be $5? I'm sure that is worth all the time you have been spending trying to hunt one down.

All the time? 30 mins?

I'm not being cheap at all. I was on my way to Ford when I stopped at the Napa on the way. What's the big deal?
