First.....the black piece was some of that door trim...I couldn't cut a straight line with the Dremel for the life of me that day.
Not much too it. From you can see from the before pic my dash was hitting the windshield. Defroster was serverely compromised. So at first I trim it (where it was hitting the windshield).
Then I go to the junkyard and pull off the defroster piece off the pre 98. Just have to make sure that it doesn't break in half. When you get it home, with a Dremel and cutting wheel (make sure to have some spares
) you trim off everything except for the actual trim piece so it will fit right up against the windshield. If done correctly it will just be the piece seen (smooth on the underside when the "deflectors" used to be).
Once done I put the piece in, marked where the screws needed to go (all I needed were one in each corner by the A pillar). Pulled the piece back out to drill the holes. Put the piece back in and used long self-tapping screws to screw into the piece/into the dash.
That was it. Despite not having in the "deflectors" the defroster worked 100% better than it had previously did. It defintely looked a lot better, cost little to nothing to do, and was more permanant than the Ford "fix" As for durabilty never had any issues with it as long as I had the car.
