I haven't had the use of my E-Brake for some time now...and I sorta want to get it back. Before the winter I actually broke the cable that goes from the handle to the braket where it splits off to the rear cables. I checked @ Jenkins site for a replacement and it was $72.XX I thought that was rediculous just for a cable. Does anyone know of an alternative source for the cable? TIA

junkyard. and that price i believe is for the entire kit. cables for both sides and new springs for the calipers. i replaced my cables with that kit and no more stuck ebrake in the winter. didnt happen once this winter, like it was doing almost daily last winter

I looked into the hand brake cables on fordpartsonline.com just a couple weeks ago and they have seperate part #s for the front cable and rear cable, I think the front was a whole $35+ and the rear was something close to that as well.

ebrake only runs to the rear calipers. there is no front. u might be checking the front ebrake lever which is the whole piece with the actual handle u pull. otherwise theres 2 cables: a left and right that go to the rear calipers and newer springs that r supposed to be better at releasing the ebrake to not stick. the cables attach to a y split thats part of the front ebrake lever

According to the Ford CD there is a 'front cable.' I had to recently diagnosis why my calipers were frozen, and the CD specific states it as a 'front cable.'

just call bill.. he'll know (well he usually knows parts pretty well) i got an ebrake cable from him for i think like $40 and it runs from both calipers to a cable that is up above the muffler(resonator) and heat sheild. There is a "front cable" that goes from that point up to the actual handle. Most likely your problem resides in the rear cable.

this bia fixed my MPG from 21ish to 25ish

And I know it is the front cable, simply because it has frayed/snapped (in 2 pieces) right where it enters the car.

If it is the "front cable" I am also positive you have to replace the whole handle which has the cable attached. I have had to do twice. Once a new part from Ford and once out of a junk yard. Both times the cable frayed and broke.

With the hand brake removed from the car body floor and the front cable detached from the rear cable you will be able to retract the brake handle all the way back and align the cable knuckle removal holes.. hard to explain without pics, but you really shouldn't have to replace the E-brake itself unless it's failed like mine has , if it's just a frayed cable near the ebrake then he should be ok.
