I have a '97 zetec mtx, with almost 110k on it.
I never noticed this sound before because you can only hear it with the windows down and the radio off, and my radio is barley ever off. I had it off one day and heard a weird noise coming from the underside of the car, a crackling noise. Some things I noticed is that is starts in first gear quite high, 2nd starts lower, and progressivly lowers through gears. 3rd gear is the worst, the loudest and it starts at 3.5k RPM. I haven't noticed a decrease in the cars performance, it runs exactly the same, just has a noise that bugs me and, doesn't really sound nice while passing.
I wanted my father to listen to the sound, so I put it in neutral and revved it, to probobly 5k RPM, but no noise, it only does it while in gear, and does it all the time, whether or not the engine is cold or hot.
If anyone has any suggestions, or similar experiences, please help me!
