So would it be possible to swap from an ATX to an MTX on the 2.5 duratec? I haven't ever really compared bell housings side by side so what im really asking is do they match up and are the sizes and shapes similar. I've heard that hondas do these swaps like champs... well some do I dont know about others.

Oh and hello everyone this is my first post although I've been glancing at these forums for quite some time being that I own two contiques; one is a 1996 duratec ford contour LX with some rear end damage, and the other is a 1998 duratec mercury mistique LS that I beleive has dead cats and will no longer start.

It seems that everyone might tell you to sell your atx and use that money towards an MTX. Owning two of these cars, you know how cheap they sometimes get sold for and your bound to find a reasonably priced v6 MTX if you look hard enough.

That being said Occam's Razor would indicate that since the V6 engine's are the same between the autos and manuals, the bellhousing should bolt right up. There is, of course, like a billionty other things to do to make the swap. Search in the Transaxle forum(where you posted in the correct forum, good job ) and you'll find what you want.

I think you might not have been awake when you posted this. He is talking about trans swap of manual and automatic, bolting up a manual trans from a V6 car where an automatic trans had been behind (or next to) in a V6 car.

I don't see anything here about Duratec vs Zetec.

Back to the original question, one of the complications in the swap is that the subframes are different so you need to swap the subframe with the trans.

The ECU should be the only other issue as well.

Like it was said, it might be more cost worthy to find a v6 stick for sale. If you take in the PITA for a DYI to xfer it all over. Cost and time + PITA vs the cost of just getting one with the stick...

Done it.

Hard? No more then a trans swap.
Time consuming? Yes.
Would I do it again? Maybe (enjoyed the car as a MTX and the swap was cheaper then finding a good CD4E)
