Im looking FW to AutoXing an SVT.

I used to AutoX alot in my Tiburon, Talon TSI and Sprint.

Believe it or not, I had the most success in my 88 Sprint, I was rarely not at the top of HS and even took GS some days with R's on it.

I dont have my hopes too high... but it would be awesome if the SVT has the capability to be a serious AutoX contender.

The competition is very tight here in Winnipeg, simply because we have alot of experienced guys, we all have R's, and well theres nothing else to do, lol.

What I mean is the top cars usually are:

1) BMW M3 - Eric
2) Honda S2000 - Greg
3) Mazda Miata - Corey
4) Chev Corvette - Phil

Or some version of that

How are the SVT's doing at the local events out there? Never seen one at an event here in Winnipeg.

Thanks,

-Steve

Good luck! The SVT is just too big and heavy (and camber-challenged) to dance around the cones faster than a Mini Cooper S, so the PAX won't be great. But, it's a decent car and in the hands of a good driver will be very fun and quick.

What tires are you running, and what size?

Right now... I have no car to AutoX. I am looking to purchase an SVT off the board shortly, a few deals are "tentative" pending the owners selling soon.

But for the Sprint I was using VictoRacers A032's. Way too much grip, they never squealed. The car would roll long before that. I dont think I wore the tread at all in a season of AutoX lol.

For the SVT when I get one I would probably go with:

for AutoX.

For daily driving I would probably go with:

What about you?

Thanks,

-Steve

225/50R16 710s should be the hot ticket for a GS SVT. The 712s aren't the best. Check out the last few posts in the Wheels and Tires FAQ for details on what new tires are a good buy. I'm in a street tire class so I'm running MXs right now, and going to Azenis soon.

In all the cars i have autocrossed, my Escort running in HS was the most fun and i was always in the top, except when i ran out of gas, then i only got 5th out of 10 cars. I had Yok AVS ES100's and Tokico struts, the car was light, and could just dance around cones. The Mustang is big and heavy, but you can steer with the rear of the car and that is nice. I think the Contour will show on the more open faster tracks than the tight slow ones, and my Escort is the other way, but i am no longer racing that now.

July 1st will be my first run in the Contour, GS here i come.

What rules do you run under? I know canada has a different set of rules and IIRC you use a points system to class the cars with mods?

I havn't tried those MX's, I will price them out when I get my car, and then decide.

GJ with the 88 escort, sound like a fun little car. The sprints power was all in its weight. 48 HP, 1.0L 3 Cyl weighing in at 1500 lbs. Boo yahh. lol.

I assume you are using one point for R's what will you be using your other point for?

I am not sure if I would go with smaller wider wheels or the rear sway bar. Some people might go for the LSD but I am not sure it would be worth the time/money to swap it out for the benefit you would get. The V710's are nice tires. I ran them on the miata for a few months last year before I switched to STS2.

A 225 isn't in horrible shape on a 6.5" wheel, and you can't fit more than a 245 without a lot of work. Can you get a camber kit with 1 point? That would be worth more that a swaybar or wheels, I'd think. Otherwise I'd probably go with the bar. That was the single most effective mod besides the camber on my car.

Camber has to stay with stock adjustment or I would have suggested that. Look at the rules posted for the list of mods and points values as well as classing.

I was thinking of going with a 225/50/15 on a 15x7-8 instead of the stock 16's.
