The cars have no resale. Some of us have seen crazy deals because some people don't know what they have. The cars aren't very reliable IMO. If you know how to fix them, what to look for, and know what upgrades to do the cars are awesome. That's why CEGers usually keep buying them because we have learned the ways of the force. Hell look at the car I paid 2k for and the mods that were on it. It needed new tires, control arms, sunroof motor motor and a bunch of little stuff you can find at the junk yard. The car has 119k on it now but that doesn't scare me. I'll throw another motor in it when the time comes.

Exactly the reason I just can't leave CSVT's alone and go for something else. I don't think I will find another car that compares in power, styling and features for the price. I'm now very familiar with them so I can fix w/e needs to be done when it happens. I mean the 2000 I just got was only $2k with 73k miles. After the 3L swap is done, it will be an awesome car that no other car will compare to for the price. The purpose of buying it was to replace our 93 Mustang GT, which I just don't know enough about to repair myself, nor do I have the time to sit down and research. I'd rather go with a car I already know for alot less money.

I concur. The SVT Contour is really one the best deals out there right now, you just have to be comfortable working on the car yourself. Unlike my friends that almost all drive civics, I just can't go in someone's backyard and get parts I need, etc.

my problem is that i can't find any CSVT's locally...need to drive at least 300 miles to look at 2 or 3 of them and they over charge bad...like $7000 on average. Guess I just need to go to michigan to find a good deal.

My problem is, that even though CEG'ers and others know what the value of what is put into the car and what it would cost to do the same on thier own they still choose to devalue the car well beyond what is reasonable.
Say you bought a SVT for $2000 and then did the 3L swap for $1500 inlcuding misc parts and your time. Right now, including your own time you are at $3500 for the car with a 3L swap. Now if it came down to it where Joe CEG wanted to buy the car with all this done already I doubt he'd be willing to pay anywhere close to the $3500 that it would have cost him to the the exact same thing himself. This is not the case for everyone but my general feeling is the people want to pay less for a finished product than what it would cost to do it themselves. To me it seems like CEG itself is driving down the value of these cars within the community.

True, but what are ou going to do? It is what it is. It will always be "a fancy Ford Contour." Negativity abounds in the car world even thought our community knows otherwise how great they are dollar for dollar.

All I have to say before I let this one sail out to sea is that I have no pitty for those who complain about the poor resale value of thier SVT's or about loosing thier shirts on the car when many others are the ones are the ones contributing to it. Yes it is what it is, but you also make it what it is.
As for just being a fancy ford contour....it's true, but the same could be said about the Lightning, SVT Focus etc (allbeit the contur had a more humble beginning). They all have to start somewhere but carrying that perception will not allow it to ever become more than that.

NOBODY is going to pay full price for something that you have in the car.
If you put it together for that $3500, and drive it ONCE... it isn't worth that anymore.
The sad state of affairs isn't that we DEVALUE the cars.. it is that the general public happens to be so nieve that they continue to OVERINFLATE the value of these cars at dealers. WE'RE THE LEVEL HEADED ONES.
I'm sorry you had to sell your car, and I am sorry that what CEG'ers were willing to pay wasn't what you wanted, but.. The fact is: 99% of time, CEG knows more/better than any dealer.

I never expected anyone to pay full price for what I put into it but when CEG is offering less for the entire car than what I had been offered for the Motor and trans alone it's hard for me to have any respect for that.

Ever heard the term "worth more in parts than it is together"?
My '65 is like that.. I probably couldn't get 4000 for the truck together, but could easily surpass that and then some, parting it out.
The odds of someone liking EVERY SINGLE mod done to the car, the mileage, the history, and the condition are slim. but SOMEONE will like the motor, someone else that door, etc. Its just a fact of life.. You can get over it, accept what you can get, or you can hold on to it and wait it out for the best offer of a lifetime.
