I know this could be in another forum, but since it's performance part-related (sort of), I thought I'd get better answers in here. Mods, feel totally free to move it.

Okay, so the scenario is I have a leak high on the block. I took the car into a mechanic's this morning, and he diagnosed it as a leaking oil pressure sender. But, as he told me (via phone, I'm at work still), it's "an aftermarket unit; I ordered the stock replacement, and it's not even close." Now, the car has an Autometer oil pressure gauge (white with black trim, I forget which line it is) that a previous owner put in. So, is it safe to assume it's the gauge's sender that's leaking? Also, can I just order a replacement sender unit (do they even go bad) from Autometer, or could there be something else I'm missing?

Thanks all!

It sounds like you understand. He found a leaking sending unit and it didn't match the factory one. It is highly likely that it is the sending unti for the autometer gauge. Ask Autometer what they use for a sending unit. You might still be able to use one from a parts store if they can tell you more about what they use. If not, get one from Autometer.

Updates, folks!

I printed out a picture of the Autometer sending unit and took it to the mechanic; he said the one that's leaking looks like it, so I'm going to order it from Summit and bring it in. I really miss having a driveway to do this stuff in....

Anyhow, in the coming weeks, I'll also be installing an Accusump I acquired through Swazo (proud to have some of his car in mine!). Could I safely split the tap the sending unit is using to input the Accusump? I'm only asking now, as I'll order the fittings and all at the same time.
