I am pulling a 117 code which isn't in the archives but did find it in the FAQ but not really any help. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it. I am also pulling 171 and 420 which is wierd because both o2 sensors have been replaced in the last year. Any help would be great!!

Sorry, It's a 1997 with about 20,000 miles on a rebuilt motor and the headgasket was replaced about 3 weeks ago.
yes the codes are P0117, P0171, and P0420.
I am pretty sure the P0420 is for the CAT converter but I am unsure about the other 2.

Most probably but one of the reasons for a P0420 could also be a malfunctioning ECT sensor. I would try that first.
From TSB,
P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) Indicates Bank 1 catalyst system efficiency is below the acceptable threshold.
· Malfunctioning ECT/CHT
· High fuel pressure
· Damaged exhaust manifold
· Cylinder misfiring
· HO2S wiring concerns (shorted or chafed, bent pins, etc.)
· Damaged exhaust system pipe
· Damaged muffler/tailpipe assembly
· Retarded spark timing
Damaged Catalytic Converter:
· Use of leaded fuel
· Oil contamination/consumption
· Silicone contamination (sealants/cleaners)

Big Jim once said that one of the first rules of troubleshooting is to take care of issues that you know of first.
However, if you want to do the P0171 first, then, spray some carb cleaner to try and locate a vacuum leak. If the idle changes you found the leak. There is a very good chance that the P0171 is the result of a vacuum leak.
As for the P0420, as posted earlier, take care of the P0117 (ECT sensor) first and see if that will also take care of the P0420.
