O-k, here's a review of some new General UHP tires that came with a rim combo I purchased from discount tires.

Specs:

Size - 215/45/17
Weight - 18lbs (light!)
UTQG - 380 AA

At first, I was a little leary of the General brand. I usually go with Bridgestone, Yokohama, or BFGoodrich, and had only heard of them thru tirerack.com (see reviews here)

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Exclaim+UHP

But the package was such a sweet deal, I took it.

I've got about 1000 miles on them, and here are my first impressions.

Very quiet for a UHP tire. They are actually quieter than the Fusion HRi I ran for a winter tire. No hum at all. They do get loud on broken surfaces.

They don't tramline or follow grooves in the road.

They are smooth over pavement joints and road imperfections.

They are very stable, allowing the car to corner with less lean.

The dry grip is pretty amazing. I haven't pushed it to the limit yet, but so far I'm happy.

The wet grip is also very good, and the tire resists hydroplaning. In a huge downpour, others were slowing down, and I just kept on going my 82 mph.

All in all, I have to say that I am very surprised at the quality ride of the tire. I was expecting loud and harsh (ala the original GS-C's, or the Dunlop 8000s I ran), but that is not what I got. And for $72 each, it'll be a bargan long after the GS-Ds go off sale.

I'll give another review after I install my Koni kit.
