Is it normal for headunits to start skipping if they get too hot? I am wondering if I need to do some sorta mod to add fans in there or something...or maybe return the head unit for another one...

I have never had a head unit overheat. Even when running for 7/8 hours straight. The CDs come out a little toasty, but the player still works fine. Like mentioned above, try to return it, something is wrong with it.

Alrighty, well I contacted the seller about the HU and he said I can send it in and he will exchange it. I jut hope that it doesn't take TOO long cuz this thing sounds amazing. The only reason that I thought of overheating is because this HU runs 70x4 watts...which is higher than most other HUs. I don't know too much about car audio components, which is why I came here to ask you guys. Thanks for the input.

ive been running a alpine 60X4 since 6year without any overheating. but just one thing, dunno for the pana...

but i was thinking since most of 60X4 HU and over are often advise to pass a direct B+ to the battery or fusebox for operating fine, maybe that could cause overheating if not well powered....

Hmm...well it doesn't mention anything about that in the install directions or anything...I think I either have a bad unit or it got damaged when it got stuck in the dash bezel... Basically one of the metal tabs on the bottom of the chassis got bent backwards and I had to cut it off to get it out again...dont ask...haha. Either way, I am going to send it back and get another one so hopefully the problem lies within the HU that I have now. And about the power, yeah the 70x4 wasn't referring to the rms, i was referring to peak. Which looking back on was kind of a stupid thing to say because the HU doesn't run that high constantly...oh well, I am still a noob on this stuff and I am not ashamed to admit it. That is what all you wonderfully knowledgeable people are for.
