What would you need to do to swap rear folding seats into a contour? Is it as easy as just taking old out and putting new in?

IIRC yes, buy you also need the cables and the release clips.

I was going to do this mod before I had my sub setup, but decided not to cause I couldn't find a matching back seat pattern.
If you find a matching seat color/pattern, make sure you get everything out of the other contour(pull cable, nuts, release clips.) Your car should already have mounting holes for the release clips and a retainer(s) in your trunk for the pull cable to fold the seat down. But double check, my car had everything in place, so yours should also.

the set up is very easy to do takes about few hours. everything is plug and play. only thing is you gotta have to find those locks for the seats that you will install in the back panel and in the trunk. i swapped my whole interior form cloth to leather and its all fitter right in even the power seats. i have 1996 GL

On a related note, how the hell do you get the non folding back seat out? I've searched and even looked on a 99 ford cdrom but to no avail.

I was able to pop the front of the bottom cushion out but couldn't figure out where anything else undid. I was afraid of just pulling on stuff and breaking something.

the front of the bottom is the only part of the seat that needs to be popd out just pull the seat belts though the holes and remove.
