Hey guys,
I was trying to do my alternator since th ebattery light was on, while removing the coil pack i found this wire and have no idea what the deal is. Can someone identify this for and and let me know if this could cause a battery light to be on constantly? thanks

This wire was below the coil pack near a big wire harness

It is a broken Maxi fuse. With it being dead your alternator will not charge and the battery light will be forever on (until the battery dies). Last one I had die was fairly cheap, even from the dealer.

WHat causes this fuse to die? Do i need to be looking into something else or could the fuse have just gone bad randomly?

Maybe, but more so the voltage regulator in the alternator is not working.

Charging system from Autozone.

thanks for the info.
Do you think i should just replace the maxi-fuse and call it good or is my alternetor prob. toast too? The alternator is tough to get to and i don;t want to replace it if it is not needed. Could the maxi-fuse have blown from a sound system in the car? I had a system put in several months ago and only used it for like 6 weeks and blew out the sub, so it is all hooked up just sitting in the trunk. Anyway any thoguhts are helpful, i would like to minimize the time and money spent on this so why help is useful.

Yes for now. Then test alternator after charging the battery well.

Engine running. Voltage across battery terminals should be 14 to 14.5 volts.

Maybe.

Thanks Tony for your help. I've never had a big fuse like this go out before, but at least that happened rather then melting wires i guess

The only time I've ever had the maxi fuse go in these cars is from a bad alternator. You can install a new fuse and probably be alright for a short time, but a blown maxi fuse is a symptom of a problem and most likely the source is your alternator.
