I am moving to the greater chicago area next week and in speaking with a few of my friends, I have been told that Il. has a different system of recording points.
The question I am asking is has anybody made the move from Michigan to Il. and how has this switch affected your insurance. For example, I had a friend move to south carolina and in doing his record was completely cleared. If anybody has insight on this I would really appreciate it.

michigan puts "points" on your drivers license for moving violations. too many and your insurance goes up and you could lose your license. i know ohio transfers... don't know about IL though.
and congrats on the job and move, scott!

As far as I know, Illinois doesn't use a "points" system.
I've lived here all my life, worked for an insurance company for 8 years, my dad was a police officer as is my brother-in-law. So, I think I would have heard about them if we did.
I think the process here is simple... if you have a moving violation, it goes on your "record" that insurance companies can see and it stays there for a few years. It is possible to keep things from hitting your record with court supervision and behaving yourself for a while. If you get 3 violations on your record within a rolling 12 months (or is it longer now?) you lose your license. I may be a little fuzzy on that though since it has been 10 years or more since I have had a speeding ticket, and I've never had more than 1 on my record at a time.

actually IL does use a point system... although it is radically different than most states.
the reason I know IL uses points is because my last court appearance, the judge told me that my ticket was 157 points against my license..... ya it was a big ticket
yes... I am a cougar owner trolling on your board.

LOL you must have been in the wrong state. No points here, Just try not to be "convicted" 3 times in a year. I op for the 4-8 hrs traffic classes every time.

You guys should get the IL. Drivers licence. The courses here in the US are a bit different!!! You guys can take the classes on-line at home. Easy as pie. The test they give you at the beginning is the same test at the end...Even I passed.....
