Got the shifter installed and went to put the reverse lockout on and it got stuck on the top o-ring. Pulled the lock out back off and the o-ring tore in half. Does it have to be on there? What are the effects if I don't have it?

If it's the same O ring that's on my shifter (missing the reverse lockout stuff), then I'll guess it's going to rattle.
