Alright here is the deal. I have used Mapquest/and Yahoo Maps and found there are 2 ways from IL to Ft Wayne.

First we have the way we took last year:

1: Start out going NORTH on FARMINGDALE DR toward 75TH ST / CR-33 E. <0.1 miles Map

2: Turn RIGHT onto 75TH ST / CR-33 E. 0.8 miles Map

3: Turn RIGHT onto IL-83 S / KINGERY HWY. 0.8 miles Map

4: Merge onto I-55 N toward CHICAGO. 3.1 miles Map

5: Merge onto I-294 S via EXIT 277B toward INDIANA (Portions toll). 23.9 miles Map

6: I-294 S becomes I-80 E / I-94 E (Crossing into INDIANA). 13.0 miles Map

7: Merge onto I-65 S via EXIT 11 toward INDIANAPOLIS. 6.7 miles Map

8: Take the US-30 exit- EXIT 253- toward MERRILLVILLE / VALPARAISO / SHERERVILLE. 0.4 miles Map

9: Turn LEFT onto US-30 E / E 81ST AVE. Continue to follow US-30 E. 117.2 miles Map

10: Merge onto I-69 S / US-33 S. 7.1 miles Map

11: Take the US-24 W exit- EXIT 102- toward FT. WAYNE / HUNTINGTON. 0.2 miles Map

12: Merge onto US-24 W toward HUNTINGTON. 0.1 miles Map

13: Turn RIGHT onto COVENTRY LN. <0.1 miles Map

14: End at 5775 Coventry Ln
Fort Wayne, IN 46804-7146, US Map

Total Est. Time: 3 hours, 28 minutes Total Est. Distance: 174.05 miles

Second, we have this way:

1. Start at 7503 FARMINGDALE DR, DARIEN - go < 0.1 mi
2. Turn R on 75TH ST - go 0.9 mi
3. Turn R on IL-83 SOUTH - go 0.8 mi
4. Take ramp onto I-55 NORTH toward CHICAGO - go 3.2 mi
5. Take exit #277B onto I-294 SOUTH toward INDIANA - go 18.4 mi
6. Bear L on I-80 EAST - go 146.7 mi
7. Take exit #144 onto I-69 SOUTH - go 54.3 mi
8. Take exit #102 onto US-24 WEST toward HUNTINGTON - go 0.4 mi
9. Turn R on COVENTRY LN - go < 0.1 mi
10. Arrive at 5775 COVENTRY LN, FORT WAYNE, on the R

Total Est. Time: 3hrs, 25 min Total Est. Distance: 224.7

Here is the dilema : They are both about the same time, but a 50 mile difference. Last year we hit lights, road was rough, etc and was thinking going the interstate route might be a little smoother. Thoughts on this please.

agreed.....i'm thinking of dropping the car another 1/2" to 1" or so once we get to Chicago....so the smoother the route there the better.

Personally, I'd go highway. Highway 30 is a 50mph(I believe) zone, and cops patrol it pretty heavily. 80/90 is awesome for just hauling ballz, and you can get away with 75mph or so on I69. It'll cut the trip down quite a bit.
