He is no where near metal but I love how Stevie Ray Vaungh plays!!! He is fast and unreal with what he can do and he only did it for a few years before he died in a wreck. Why is it that all the good ones die off???

Found a live version of Steve Morse's "Tumeni Notes." Note that he picks every note, unlike most of the other vids that have been posted where they're just doing hammerons/pulloffs.

Ahahah... right on! I love Matt's solo in "Like Light to Flies". Although, honestly, I can't pick a favorite guitarist... my favorites all do different things well. Petrucci's in that list, though, as is Heafy, Michael from Pyramaze, the guy from Steel Prophet, Roy Z, Adrian Smith, Alexi Laiho (possibly the best riff-writer of all time), and maybe even Jon Schaffer. There's a lot of good metal around, nowadays.

You guys really ought to check out a guy called Neil Zaza... he's somewhere in-between Satriani, Vai, and Eric Johnson. All kinds of speed on tap, but lots of feel, flow, and TONE!

He's got a couple songs on a myspace.... http://www.myspace.com/neilzaza
