I have a 98 mystique LS 2.5 5 speed the final drive is 4.06 I would like to change it. Is there another choice? Is there anything I could from a focus or a 2.0 contour? I would like to be around 3.50

Search for FDR
Search for Final Drive Ratio
Search for Final Drive

This searching was done in the Transaxle forum.

Click on the links I posted and search more before you ask anymore questions. The information is there, you just might have to search back farther than just last week.

There are two types of engines on the Contour/Mystique/Cougar paltform: The Duratec V6 and the Zetec 4 cylinder. Each engine had a different final drive ratio.

I already knew that there are different ratios in different vehicles. What I need to know is what ratio came in what what engine, car, year combination. You said check the diesel the next guy said forget the diesel. I was looking for the correct info from someone who knows not just someones opinion. I found a site that shows gear ratios for each gear but it doesn't tell the final drive ratio.

It's really pretty simple.

The Contour/Mystique/Cougars with 4 cylinder engines and manual trans have 3.84 final drives.

The Contour/Mystique/Cougars with a cylinder engines and manual trans have 4.06 final drives.

The final drives between them are interchangable as are most of the internals, but they have different bell housing patterns and different length input shafts.

It has been a reasonably common modification to use the 4 cylinder final drive with a V6, especially with a 3.0 engine conversion.

I don't know what the Focus has available or if Focus MTX75 manual trans final drives will fit ours. Some things on the Focus trans are very similar and other things are very different. If Focus information is important to you, you might try a Focus forem or you might try to contact Terry Haines, the man who probably know that trans better than anyone.

And another option:

BAT Euro trans have a 3.82 final drive ratio.
