Ok so I'm finding out a lot of gas stations are actually selling E10 fuel. So, how does that effect the tune I have for my 3L?

this question seems to be popping up on almost every forum. From what I've read the consesus seems to be that it doesn't affect your tunes. Also, it seems that it supposedly 'adds' a few pts of octane.

I don't know if this will pertain to you,But in denver They are required to run e10 fuel in the winter, and most companies other than shell run it year round.Maybe it is the same way where you are.

The E10 additive is due to the MTBE being phased out due to commie pinkos and the possibility of it getting in ground water, which they knew when the started using MTBE. This is also why some gas stations were dry because they could not mix the E10 gas and the MTBE gas in the tanks and had to wait til the were empty to put the new mix in.

Not to mention that this is one of the main reasons the prices shot up rapidly a few weeks ago. On the east coast, there are 2 pipelines that supply fuel to the east. Neither was ready for e10 because it would not mix w/MTBE. the pipe lines and refineries needed to do some conversions to the tanks etc. and waited til the last minute. We are paying for all of the equipment changeover at the pump.

E10 has been in use for at least 20 years. You don't need to do anything special to use it.

Ethanol has to be shipped by rail or truck, can't ship it by pipeline. The jobber mixes it just prior to delivery.

From what I'm reading E10 burns a little leaner than whatever is normal gasoline.... stoic is more like 14.1 or something instead of 14.7, so A/F ratio would not be optimal on cars tuned for regular gasoline, righto?

I'm thinking I should request an additional tune for my XCal2 for E10 vs 93 octane gasoline

i may have missed it but is E10 just ethanol? if so we have had that here in CT for some time, I think it is mainly used in winter to obtain cleaner emmisions, makes no difference otherwise, I believe it tops out at 10%
