Ok, so for about 3 weeks now, my car has been misfiring badly under low RPMs with the Magnecors. They were only installed for about 1 month. The problem happens for example, starting off in first gear, misfires like crazy then stops misfiring and pulls hard and smooth. Also, if I upshift to lets say third, when I should be in second, and I give it more gas, misfires again while accelerating until I reach higher RPMs.

So today I pulled out the Magnecors and installed the stock Motorcraft wires again. These wires I removed at 105k and showed no signs of problems at all. I just figured while I was doing a big tuneup, I should do them at the same time.

After installin the Motorcraft wires, the car ran perfectly smooth again. No misfires at all.

After doing a good amount of reading on the Magnecor site it seems it might not be a problem with the wires themselves, but a combo of the plugs and wires. They say that when using certain plugs, the wires do not sit flush onto the valve cover, allowing moisture and dirt to get inside the boot. Which mine do not sit flush at all. There is a gap at the top of the boot.

Interesting information on Magnecor site. READ!

Just curious, but what plugs are most CEGers generally using with the Magnecors?

hmmm that is interesting, I am running Champions at the moment with magnacores and have no issues. With my autolites I kept on replacing plugs and replacing plugs....1k carefree miles now.

that is really interesting, however I tried out FMS wires and the car still missfired for me leading me to believe that this is not plug/wire issue..but very interesting indeed..

I'm not sure that it's certain types of plugs as much as the design of the boot. The Magnecors don't sit flush with the top of the head like the stockers do. It looks to me like it is a design flaw on their part. The boot is physically longer than a stock plug wire which leads to the sealing issue.

They talk about that issue on there site because of different plugs. You can contact them and have them modify the boot at no extra charge, when you order new wires from them that is.

Boot can be up to 5mm higher or 5mm lower.

As stated in my Road Trip thread Magnecor's failed and were pretty new. Installed Autolites with a lifetime warranty. If they fail just exchange for a new set. They're $55 and look quality. For the price the Mag's should at least seal to the valve covers.

Autolite plug wires? Where did you get them from? Are they stock replacement or larger?

Can get them at Advance. They are stock 8mm. Are you really gaining anything from 9mm? 1hp? Insignificant IMO.

You're probably right. I was just curious. I seem to be having some misfiring at low rpm's like Tony, but it clears up after around 3000 rpms. It seems like in 1st & 2nd gear, once I get to 2500 rpms, it feels like something is holding the motor back, and then it clears up. I think I'll put some double platinum plugs in first, as I've still got my copper nitrous plugs in. Then switch wires if that doesn't fix it.
