I am having very bad fuel milage and I was told that I might have a lazy Oxygen sensor. Sooooo....What is a lazy oxygen sensor and how do I check to see if my sensors are lazy?

Thankyou

Feed it some carbs! That should pump it up. No such thing as a "lazy" O2. They just go bad over time and aren't as accurate. Do you have a CE light on?

Actually, talking with Venom over the phone, they contributed my lean condition to my O2 sensors being "lazy." It's generally at tip-in that the O2 sensor doesn't react fast enough to compensate for different air/fuel conditions. Anyway, I'm getting P0171 & P0174 codes as I've got the factory upstream O2's in place right now. They only come up about once a week. Hoping the new Denzo's I ordered yesterday clears that up.

I've always heard it as a slow O2. Just depends where your kid goes to special ed I guess.

I did have a p0171 cel. Bank one lean. I reset the computer and the cel has not come back. It's been 4 months. I am going to replace the downstream sensor and take if from there. I have read the how to article and I am unable to match the part number with the correct sensor. See the web link below.

I hope this is the right sensor

Thank you for you help

You will be wasting your money. P0171 is not for a defective nor "lazy" ("slow") downstream sensor.

Edit.
These are codes which could be for "slow" ("lazy") O2 sensors.

HO2S slow response rate - P0133, P0153
HO2S lack of switching - P1130, P1131, P1132, P1150, P1151, P1152
HO2S lack of switching (sensor indicates lean) - P1137
HO2S lack of switching (sensor indicates rich) - P1138

and even some of these could be attributed to other issues too. But definitely, a new downstream O2 sensor isn't going to solve your P0171 code problem.
