Okay, I guess the alternator mod is about to happen to my car. I'm getting the electrical system checked out to make sure everything else is okay. The charging light is still on, until you rev it up a little, but the tach works FINALLY!

Anyway, what alternator and where to get it? I'd like one with a lifetime warranty, and a decent one. Thanks.

I got mine at autozone,Duralast, lifetime warrenty. I don't remember the price,(I'm still trying to forget the whole alternator change experience) but it wasn't cheap.

I did mine about three years ago, bought it at napa, lifetime warranty, and I think it was a little more than 200 bucks. It's worked fine ever since which is good because the install sucked a lot.

I went to a Mercury dealer and got one for ~$180...then paid the fools $180 for install. 7 hours of labor later (after which they had to torch all the nuts off)...they weren't too happy when I paid $360 and drove off!

Alternator is GONE. It's been on it's way out for quite a while.

So, the car is in the garage about to go onto jackstands! WHOO HOO! I can't wait.

Well, never mind, I took the weeny way out. I found a place near where I live that will do the labor for $143, so total with belt $377!! Lifetime guarantee on the alternator! WHOOHOO! I made sure that the price was guaranteed!

It's like 2.2 hours or something, whatever ALLDATA quotes for the repair. I almost feel like I'm cheating them, but that's what they said. I asked for a firm price, because I didn't want to pay more than what they were quoting me. He guaranteed me that was the price...

Deal of the Year. It was the worst repair of any car I've ever worked on. I'm still seeing a therapist about it,LOL. Good job.

Yeah - pass me the name of your therapist, okay? I've got my car on jackstands in my driveway and about to try to burn the nuts off the flanges of the ypipe. Spent all afternoon sunday taking the thing apart. Ford quoted me about 300 for labor and 275 for the alternator.
