I have a jbl 600.1 mono amp and two 4 ohm subs. Right now it is running at 2 ohms because the subs are wired in parallel. I am looking into getting two infinity dual 4 ohm subs (rms 250 watts). I am confused on what ohms they would be running at. I know the jbl amp is stable at one ohm. Also the amp doesn't have a power increase from 2ohm load to 1 ohm load.
So if I am running the two voice coils in parallel then each sub would be at two ohms. Then since the amp is mono I want to wire the subs to the amp in parallel so that I get the full power out of the amp. Will this give me one ohm?

I also have a jbl 1200.1 layn around that could be used.

The options when you have two subs each with dual 4 ohm voice coils:

All in parallel: 1 ohm
all in series: 16 ohms

series the coils on each sub, then run the two subs in parallel: 4 ohms

I would usually suggest running the amp in 4 ohm mono for the best "performance". Running it in 1 ohm mono will provide more power, but usually the amp has less control of the speaker and will run much hotter in the process.

As with everything else, it is a tradeoff that you need to decide what you want.

thanks for the reply...
so i can run the jbl PB1200.1 at 4 ohms and get the same power i would out of the jbl PB600.1

this way i can use your suggestion and get the best performance by running the mono amp with a 4 ohm load.

The JBL BP series has neglibly more power at 1 ohm than 2 ohm, so I would agree with Bob's advice. And think your idea of using the BP1200.1 is a good one.

right. i think the 600.1 is 1ohm stable but doesnt put out more power than at 2ohm and does 300watts at 4ohm so running the 1200 at 4ohm should work out great.
