I have been reading a lot about this wirring harness recall because I currently own a 98SVT and have been noticeing that a lot, if not all, of my wires leading out of any plug are all cracked and brittle. I klnow that the recall applies to the 95-97 Contour. Does anyone have the same issue woth the 98 and on Contours, and if so, what can I do about it, if anything.

You can't. You fork over 1k for new wiring harness.

Yes you can use the same recall, however your SVT has to be under 100,000 miles. If it isn't your sh!t out of luck. Either pay the money for a new harness, or do what I did, rewire it yourself.

You say that as a matter of fact, I have a hard time believing that the dealer would accept the recall. I am still under the 100,000. Is there something about the recall that I am unaware of?

Ive got a wiring harness minus the injector harness I can let go for the price you will find at a yard sale PM me. its from a 99 CSVT.

that is doesn't apply to SVT's or 98 iirc
- 95 Mystique LS - Zetec/5spd

So what your saying is that it can apply to a 98 Contour but not a 98'SVT Contour, sounds like its a lot of heresay and not fact.

And that would be wired for a returnless car.

You can't use it on any 98 on Contour. This isn't difficult reading comprehension.

FYI.
...I have had TWO SVT Contours thru the shop in the
past,both had 97 1/2 'build' dates but were '98
models.Both of them needed all new engine bay
harnesses due to cracking,internal open circuits and
shorts..Neither the owners or I were able to get
anything from Ford re warranty,parts,costs etc covered
by Ford.Also FWIW I have seen '98 build date' Contours
with the same harness issues!...Thank you Yazaki!!!!
