You'd be better off buying a cougar header, less modification. Someone else will know what you need, but can you specify what modifications may concern you?

Couger headers definately. I needed NO mods to fit them except the obligatory MIL eliminator. If you want to stay legal, you'll need to add a downstream cat.

Specifically what kind of cougar headers fit with no problem? Are these stock cougar headers or aftermarket replacements, and if they are where can you get them?

Header set won't be stock/OEM as it eliminates the cat on the Zetec.

WeaponR Cougar headers are stainless steel & can be found on Ebay. As always be careful who you deal with, pay a few extra bucks to buy from somebody with plenty of positive feedback. There are other brands out there for the Cougar, I think... Search ZX2racing.com or sup'm like that & you may find some other Cougar headers.

From reading previous posts in Zetec Performance and other sites/forums, I have heard nothing but HORRIBLE reviews of the Weapon R CAI. Can the same be said about all of their products, i.e. their headers?

Their header sets are fine. I have a set on my daughters Zetec. I've installed header sets from WR and MSDS on V-6 Duratecs and they're fine. Their intakes do suck and are overpriced though...

Does the JBA shorty header for the Zx2 fit the '99.5 and newer Zetec with VCT that was installed in the Contour ??

I don't know what the exhaust and cat look like for the earlier non-VCT engines in the Contour, but the later VCT engines might connect up and maintain emissions legality.

With this setup all you are going to see is some improvement of top end power by eleiminating restricted flow of the OEM log manifold.
