I just received, and installed my Ascendant poly 6.5" woofers.
Physically, the basket, and magnet are almost identical to the Adire Extremis. The magnet on the Ascendant driver, is actually a bit smaller. (will have pics later) Definitely looks fancy with that phase plug in the center as well.
Installing this was an easy swap. just pulled the peerless CSX (same way it was with the extremis), and dropped the new driver in.
Here's the part you really wanted right? I tune them to the sennheiser headphones i have. So, how does it sound? First off, i had to flatten out my EQ settings, re adjust my gains, etc.. etc.. Start from scratch of course. I have them matched up with the Audax 3/4" tweeters found at PE for like $16 each. (will soon be upgraded to the Hiquphon OWII's or OW4's). Xover points i've chosen are @ 3.5khz.
Amazingly, the drivers had an insanely smooth response. EXTREMELY airy, and well controlled. The off axis response, is just as good as the on axis (I moved my head backand forth left and right, and all directions). Possibly that phase plug helps? Without tuning, they already sound extremely close to the extremis. I added a bit of tuning, and it sounds just as good as a girl having a real orgasm! I'd compare the adire extremis ot a fake orgasm, as the differences can only be identified by the most trained of men.
So what's my verdict? The poly 6.5" woofers in MY opinion are much better suited for in car installations. I actually feel it sounds better than the Adire Extremis, which costs $99 each, and these cost $35 each. Any questions?
