It depends. I picked up a 2000 Taurus 3L, and it was fine. Somewhere in the year 2000 is where the changes were made.

thanks for the good info this is my seconds SVT Contour first one was a 2000 Black w/ Tan int and ran like it was new .... this one had been a silver nightmare .. it's a 1998.5 silver w. blue int. i've owned this one a year and 3 months .. and i've replaced 2 alt's both rear break lines a head unit and the disc for the breakes ... so i'll just get the 01+ engine .. thanks again ... just trying to stay outta another nightmare... with this car ...
